The funeral of J.S. Ewing, whose remains were brought to this city from Belleville, Ill took place from the residence of J.P. Thompson at 10 oclock Wednesday. - kbz

John S. Ewing, for several years a resident of this city, and father of Mrs. Mat Doherty, died in a hotel in Belleville, Ills., Friday night, November 11. The deceased was alone when he expired. The following was found on his bed: My strength has failed me. I must lay down my burdens by the wayside, for want of strength to carry them. God only knows my infirmaties. My mind has been very much exercised upon the immortality of the soul. I think I see my way clear. O God have mercy on my dear wife and children. Good-by, good-by, I am choking to death, all alone, midnight. Prof. J.S. Ewing, Belleview, November 11, 1881 The remains were brought to this city on Monday and the funeral took place on Tuesday.
